September 2008
Welcome to St. Joseph High School, where “responsibility” defines “privilege.” Though being here only five short months, I assure you it really is a privilege to be part of this unique community. More than anywhere else I have known, this is a family of friends, whose compassion and expectations inspires the best and the most from each and all.
There are 224 students enrolled in our freshman class. They enter a world where individual achievement is valued and community commitment is required. Last year, we graduated 183 seniors. They set new standards for academics, for moral leadership, and civic responsibility at St Joe’s. Together, they won for themselves over $10,000,000 in renewable grants and scholarships at top universities throughout the country. But, now it is time to turn attention to this year’s edition of St Joseph High School. The Class of ‘12 brings a lot of sparkle to the already polished gems that are Classes of ’09, ‘10’ and ’11.
Indeed, there is a growing sense that St Joe’s is reaching its full potential with this incoming class. The faculty has been outfitted with versatile technologies and been trained in diversified methodologies. New textbooks, science labs, smart boards, and computers assist a very experienced faculty and an increasingly talented student body. While the diocese has committed to data driven analysis and sequenced curriculum maps, it is our teachers and administrators leading the dialogue. Our academic principal, Laurie Collins, has been tapped to present our program at national and regional curriculum conferences this fall.
Outside the classroom, our athletic fields are, so say some, “the best in the FCIAC.” More importantly, our coaches and moderators are committed to the faith-based mission of our school. Participation in sports, clubs, and activities is a virtue at St Joe’s and opportunities to practice the virtue abound. And we have plans to continue to grow and improve.
It is a great place to be, St Joe’s; truly, a privilege. It is, you will find, so much more than a school. We hope you will enjoy being part of this family. Please stay in touch throughout the journey.
