Course Descriptions


Physical Education

Physical skills and agility are developed through a controlled program of Health exercise, training and sports. Included in this course will be a presentation of health topics. It is required during Freshmen and Sophomore years.
(.50 Credit).

Special Program
College Course 901

Course offered to high school Seniors. May be taken at local colleges with permission by the Vice Principal for Academic Affairs. All required courses must be taken. Any course taken must be satisfactorily completed. If credit is to be awarded by St. Joseph High School, prior approval must be obtained from the Vice Principal for Academic Affairs.
(Variable Credit Academic Level 0).

Advanced Placement Courses

AP courses give high-achieving students the chance to try college-level work in high school and to gain valuable skills and study habits for college.  There are thousands of colleges worldwide that will give credit or advanced placement for a “qualifying” grade on the AP Exam which is given in May.

The following courses are offered:  English Literature and Composition, Calculus AB and BC, Spanish, French, Biology, European History, U.S. History.  Faculty recommendation is required.

S.A.T. Preparation

Math Skills

This course stresses the improvement of Math skills. Topics include verbal problems, percentage, average, motion, mixture, ratio problems, geometry, and quantitative comparisons. Specially prepared problems and solutions on the above topics are distributed to each student, and actual practice S.A.T. tests are given during each class.(Click here for more details.)
(After school - No Credit - Fee required).


Verbal Skills

This course focuses exclusively on the main types of verbal questions on S.A.T Preparation: the S.A.T. These include analogies, sentence completion, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. A review of English grammar is included to prepare students for the Test of Standard Written English. (Click here for more details.)
