Vision
Saint Joseph High School strives to be the premier college preparatory
school in Southern Connecticut. The school provides a learning
environment that embraces the Gospel values of the Roman Catholic faith
and promotes a commitment to family and community. The school
prepares our young women and young men to realize their potential,
helps them excel in higher education and provides a foundation to guide
them throughout their lives.

Spiritual, Academic, and Co-Curricular
St. Joseph High School is charged in the vision statement to provide
all students with the highest quality programs. Therefore we

- Ensure the continual infusion of our Catholicity into our programs
so that the teachings and dogma of the Catholic Church are well
understood by graduates
- Revise our academic profile to be more distinctive
- Enhance the spiritual and intellectual climate and atmosphere

Joseph High School will strive to maintain optimum enrollment while
maintaining academic excellence, fostering spiritual formation, and

The roles of the President, Principal, and executive staff are to
provide the leadership for St. Joseph High School to attain its vision.
The leadership must provide the visionary compass to allow the St.
Joseph High School community to assemble its map to success.
This can best be accomplished by:
- Presenting an Annual Report to the Board on progress made in the
strategic plan
- Advocating for a relationship between St. Joseph High School and
the Diocese which is in the best interest of both organizations
- Ensuring that the interests of St. Joseph High School and all of
its constituent associations and groups are in alignment
- Ensuring that St. Joseph High School executive staff, professional
staff, and support staff are provided the necessary empowerment,
resources, and support to achieve their objectives
- Continuously instilling ownership in the vision statement by providing
all constituent groups with opportunities to be involved in school
improvement research and plans
- Performing SWOT (strength, weaknesses, opportunities, threats)
analyses on a regular basis.

To deliver the excellence called for by the vision statement, every
operational function and process must be efficient and positioned to
be responsive, proactive, and flexible. This requires that:
- Operational functions be held accountable to deliver and exceed
expectations, with a special focus on safety and security.

- Annual plans be designed to contain objectives that provide quantum
leaps in quality, service, and attitude.

To achieve its vision
the school must be financially self sufficient and fiscally responsible
while maintaining a reasonable tuition. To this end we must:
- Effect financial accountability
from all St. Joseph constituencies and in turn the administration
and board must provide similar accountability to all constituencies.
- Ensure adequate internal
financial controls, monitoring, and reporting
- Implement budgeting and
forecasting systems that provide an annual framework and embody
monetary priorities
- Focus and expand financial
resources and potential resources for non tuition revenue
- Establish and prioritize
timetables for all projects requiring financial resources
- Establish processes to
authorize outlays for specific purposes from non tuition revenues
- Consider debt use in appropriate
circumstances

- All functions in this area be effectively managed to maximize funding

- A clear understanding of present and future Diocesan relationships
be maintained
- A comprehensive plan to develop leads, programs, and new revenue
sources be established
- Annual funding targets be established
- The philanthropic culture of the St. Joseph High School community
be strengthened
- There be significant growth in all endowment areas
- The roles of the Development Office, the Board, and the Alumni
Council be expanded
- An ongoing capital fund raising effort be maintained
- The base of the alumni volunteer networks and programs be broadened
- Communications with alumni be strengthened
- Alumni participation in financial support programs be expanded

The facilities are presently in overall good condition, but will require
continued maintenance and improvement to fulfill our vision. To
achieve this we must:
- Develop a clear understanding with the Diocese regarding short
and long term responsibilities in light of diminishing Diocesan financial
support
- Maintain an ongoing assessment program to identify areas requiring
action
- Search for and identify opportunities to more fully utilize the
facilities
- Establish priorities for the implementation of the campus master
plan
- Develop recommendations for maintenance and capital projects to
be funded by the operational and/or capital budgets
- Maintain a safe and secure campus

ADVISORY
BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Board, while advisory by design, is an integral part of the St.
Joseph High School community. The Board should continue to provide
leadership and oversight to assist St. Joseph
High School community to attain its vision. Therefore:
- Provision should be made to ensure competent, professional, and
dedicated individuals are recruited to serve on and lead the Board
- Activities and members of the Board should become more visible
to the St. Joseph High School community to elevate the vision and
to highlight strategies to deliver success
- Diversity in the Board’s makeup must be assured
- Development considerations and involvement need to be a Board priority
