Annual Giving Campaign

School Building
October, 2008

Dear Friends of St. Joseph High School,

Several weeks ago we hugged and kissed, and bawled like babies as we said goodbye to our oldest daughter Caitlin in the center of the University of Notre Dame’s beautiful campus.  She walked in one direction to her dorm; we walked in the opposite direction to the parking lot to head 750 miles home.  What a bittersweet moment in life, a moment of stark shattering change, rather than the gradual evolutionary change that we experience every day, yet fail to notice.

Yet it is that gradual evolutionary change that shapes our children: the science teacher who ignites a love for a subject that was previously feared; the English teacher whose unmitigated demand for excellence brings out excellence; the pastor whose living devotion to Christ puts a tangible face on our shared religion; the coach whose insistence on respecting the opponent teaches a lifelong lesson.  Those four years of high school are critically formative years in building character, in gaining self confidence, in learning that giving is so much more rewarding than receiving, in defining who you will become.

We choose to entrust our children during those critical years to St. Joe’s caring community.

The 2008-2009 Annual Giving Campaign is an opportunity for us all to improve this community, our community.  We have all witnessed the wonderful things St. Joe’s can accomplish with our donations: tuition assistance for needy students, a renovated chapel, new science labs, new sports fields, new tennis courts, smart-boards in every classroom.  The Campaign’s goal this year is $250,000.  But equally important, we would like to achieve a marked increase in participation.  A school’s participation rate is an important measure, reflecting the intensity and expansiveness of the community’s feelings for the school.

We build on a great heritage, but we do build - we improve, we make St. Joe’s better every year.  It is our creation in process, our enduring legacy.

Let’s parade that St. Joe’s spirit – please participate to the extent you can.

Sincerely,

Chris & Lorraine Wilson, Co-Chairpersons
2008-2009 Annual Giving Campaign

Vision

St. Joseph High School strives to be the premier college preparatory school in Southern Connecticut. The school provides a learning environment that embraces the Gospel values of the Roman Catholic faith and promotes a commitment to family and community. The school prepares our young women and young men to realize their potential, helps them excel in higher education and provides a foundation to guide them throughout their lives.

The Annual Giving Campaign

The Annual Giving Campaign is our effort to offer our constituents an opportunity to help achieve the dream as stated in our vision.

How will my donation help?

Your donation will have a direct and immediate effect on the level of student learning. It will maximize for many young men and women the value of the St. Joseph High School experience. When you stop to consider the positive impact St. Joseph High School has had on your life, you understand how important this opportunity is to this new generation of students. Please keep this in mind when you give.

How much should I give?

Whatever the size of your gift, please help us to help our students. The Annual Fund enables us to provide advancement in our technology initiative. Each computer comes with a $2,500 price tag and we need many to fully utilize our network. In addition, we depend on your gift to the Annual Fund to make St. Joseph High School financial available to the greatest number of qualified students. Tuition alone does not cover our actual cost per student. Only you can determine the size of your donation, but know that you are making a real difference. You make it possible for us to maintain our high standards in education for both today's students and the students of many generations to come.
