Mr Paul Brunner
Religious Studies Department
Mr Brunner holds a BA From Christendom College, and is the SJHS Walkathon Committee Chairman, and Co-moderator of the Guitar Club. Before coming to St Joe's, Mr Brunner worked in Hartford at the State Capitol, as well as in the Renewable Energy field. His passions, other than teaching, are mission work and music.
Mrs Kathleen Cardillo
Mr Kevin Carey
Mr Carey holds a BA from Saint John Fisher College in Spanish and an MBA in Education from University of New Haven, with a concentration in marketing. He is the CT State Director of Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica as well as a member of following professional organizations: CT COLT, AATSP, ACTFL, ASCD. He had a year in public schools but he says it was just not the right fit coming from a Catholic high school and Catholic college experience: "I was happy for the opportunity to pray with my students and colleagues."
Mrs Lisa Cellini
Mrs Cellini graduated from the University of Bridgeport 1980 with a BS in Medical Technology. She worked for fourteen years at Yale as a research tech in Immunology and Clinical Chemistry. She has been teaching at St Joseph for fifteen years and teaches Biology, Microbiology and Genetics. She has written and been awarded the Trumbull Business Initiative Mini Grant for the past six years. Funds from the grant are used to give genetics and microbiology students the opportunity to visit the Dolan DNA Learning Center Cold Spring Harbor NY where students perform a variety of Genetics Labs, then visit the Cold Spring Harbor Research Campus. Mrs Cellini emphasizes the use of technology and her students have created their own web pages collaborating in groups using Google resources.
She was the Varsity Cheerleading coach from 2007-2012. Her teams won back to back FCIAC Championships, placed 1st runner up in States and went to Regionals. She is currently co-moderator of the National Honor Society and is a member of the in house Professional Development Committee.
Mrs Lisa (Frascatore) Cellini SJ ‘76 is pictured above with her husband Gene Cellini SJ ’75, her sons, Matthew Cellini MD Captain USAF SJ’05, Gene Cellini Jr. SJ ’07 and her daughter Alyssa Cellini SJ ’10.
Ms Shaina Pia
Mrs Pia is originally from the Northwest corner of Connecticut: a New Englander born and bred. In addition to teaching at St Joe's, she is also the Girls Cross Country coach. She has her Master of Theological Studies (MTS) in Marriage and Family from the Pontifical John Paul II Institute in Washington, D.C. as well as a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Journalism from Boston University.
Mr Victor Eng
Mr Thomas Forde
Mr Forde worked in radio news for 17 years before becoming a teacher as well as what he describes as "in another life and in another body" a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division of the US Army.
Mrs Daisy Laone

Born and raised in Taiwan, where Mandarin Chinese is the official language, Mrs Laone came to the United States in 2004. Having taught English as Second Language in Taiwan for eight years, she began teaching Mandarin. In 2011, she received her Connecticut teaching certification for teaching Mandarin Chinese for K-12.
Her experience of learning and teaching languages gives her a unique perspective on the entire process of learning a second language. Mrs Laone has a strong knowledge and cultural awareness of Mandarin speaking cultures throughout the world. Her teaching philosophy is to develop methods to inspire students learn in their own personal ways. She believes learning a second language should be fun, lots of fun.
Ms Tanya Lowell
Ms Tanya Lowell hails from New York City. She taught at the City University of New York for five years as an adjunct/lecturer. Within the CUNY system, she taught English Remedial Composition and ESL. She was also “trying to make it” as a singer/musician when she resided in NYC, playing such well-known clubs, such as Café Wha?, the Bitter End, and the Mercury Lounge. Interestingly enough, she also is a writer of poems and is working on a novel, as we speak. She likes to read her poetry in coffee houses and at poetry festivals within the New York City area in her spare time.

Ms Koolis graduated with a BA from the University of Connecticut with a double major in English and Womens' Studies and then went onto Sacred Heart University where she received her MA and Certification in Secondardy Education. 2013-2014 will be her third year at SJ. She is the moderator of Amaranth and helps assist JV Cheerleading.
Ms Cynthia Richter
Mr Gregory Semplice
"¡Hola! Yo soy Señor Gregory Semplice." As you might have guessed by his introduction, Mr Semplice teaches Spanish at St Joe's. He is from and still lives in Bristol, Connecticut where he graduated from Eastern High School. He has earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Masters degree in Educational Technology, both from Central Connecticut State University.
Mr Semplice had a varied career before coming to St Joe's. He worked for General Motors for several years and then spent about fifteen years in web offset printing. But teaching was always his dream so when the opportunity to teach here presented itself, he jumped at the chance and have never regretted it for a moment. In addition to teaching, he coaches boys' indoor and outdoor track and he is also the freshman class moderator.
Mrs Betsy Sorrentino

I graduated from UConn with degrees in English and Psychology, then received my Masters in the Art of Teaching from Sacred Heart University. I am a moderator of the English Club, so I spend a lot of time reading books of all different genres. So, recommendations on up and coming books are up my alley! I also enjoy watching and playing sports and music.
Mrs Melissa Gizmervik
Ms Carla Aldana-Rodrigues
Mrs Aldana-Rodrigues has a BA in English from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Arts in Education-English from Sacred Heart University. Prior to coming to St. Joseph's, Ms. Aldana taught in the public school system in Baltimore, Maryland. She enjoys working in a small, tight-knit community with like-minded professionals and hardworking, studious students.
Ms. Aldana is a fan of the outdoors and spends her free time boating, hiking, rock climbing, and running 5ks. Her puppy Pepperoni is known to tag along on many of her adventures. Service to the community is a key part of her life and she enjoys rolling up her sleeves alongside St. Joe's students on weekends. She looks forward to another great year!
