St Joseph boys cross country coach David Scrivines feels the Cadets can make a significant improvement on last season's 13th place finish in the Class M state championship meet. Senior co-captains Carmine Corica and Brian Reilly will lead the way for the Cadets, along with senior Nick Rosenau. The trio each performed well in last year's state championship meet and will anchor this year's team.
The team will have good depth, as juniors Jared and Aidan Quigley, junior Jeremy Hopwood, sophomore Kyle O'Brien, and freshman Nick Zannis will compete for key places in the Cadets late season meets. St Joseph graduated just one of its seven runners (Max DeBroff) and is hoping to slide up a few places from last season's 11th place FCIAC finish.
"I'm excited about the group of guys we have this season," said Scrivines, who enters his 13th season coaching St. Joseph. "We have a good mix of seniors, returning upperclassmen, and newcomers."
Senior Mike Lovello and juniors Chris Haack, Jon Lemanski, Mike Magocsi, Anthony Salzillo, Erik Pstrag, and Joe Capio will all provide depth for St Joseph as veteran high school runners. Sophomores Evan Aldo, Will Gallagher and Jack Guman all return from last season, along with freshman James Mas, Matt Potvin, Kevin Finn, Nick Maltese and Joshua Dyke.
The Cadets kicked off the season on September 11th hosting Norwalk, Greenwich, and Bridgeport Central. St Joseph will travel to the Windham Invitational on September 15th.
