Academics
Welcome to the rich academic life of St. Joseph High School
where the art of teaching thrives!
St. Joe's is a vibrant learning community that takes to heart our motto "Privilege and Responsibility." Our entire staff works to provide your children with the highest quality college preparatory experience in the Roman Catholic tradition. Our students appreciate the opportunity afforded them and take responsibility for their learning.
At St. Joe's, our goal is to provide an environment where students love to learn. Our academic programs and our approach to teaching and learning is designed to encourage students to explore their faith and grow closer to God and neighbor, prepare students for the rigors of college, and to gain confidence as servant leaders in our community.
From the moment one steps into the halls of St. Joe's, you'll be impressed by the teaching and learning that surrounds you. Just strolling past the first floor classrooms, you will encounter students offering prayer in song, solving complex mathematical problems in calculus, or studying Spanish on an Advanced Placement level.
Our programs and curriculum are challenging and flexible, and our academic placements are appropriate to the ability and achievement of our students. Our professional staff understands that instruction must be differentiated to meet the learning needs of individual students. Teachers utilize the most effective strategies specific to their discipline and integrate technology in their instruction. Members of our Guidance and College Counseling department guide students and parents through the college admissions process, and as caring adults, help our students transition from adolescence to young adulthood.
To help foster communication and collaboration, St. Joe's subscribes to Edline, an online, web-based portal that allows teachers to create class web pages where they post syllabi, assignments, discussion groups, and through GradeQuick, issue timely grade and missing work reports. In addition, during the 2009-2010 school year, we have joined Virtual High School, a collaboration of schools around the world where students may take courses online. This school year, students will take courses in Linear Algebra, Advanced Placement Statistics, Mandarin Chinese, Astronomy, and Epidemiology.
There is no better time to be in education and no better place to be than at St. Joe's. The gift of a St. Joseph High School education is found in the people you'll meet: dedicated professionals, great kids, involved parents--a community of faith that will become lifelong friends.
