St Joseph High School was founded over 50 years ago, but our curriculum is constantly looking to the future. Our programs are grounded in the desire to push the boundaries of traditional education in a way that prepares our students for tomorrow.
Transitioning to high school is an important time in the life of a student. Freshman Focus begins with an orientation day that allows our new students to get to know one another and the St Joseph High School campus. The day includes ice breakers, a match the "faces-to-places" tour, a St Joseph High School History Trivia Game, learning the Alma Mater, and a "musical chairs "Get to Know You" pizza lunch.
The program is facilitated by a dedicated group of Freshman Focus Leaders, who students from each class year.
Freshman Focus continues through the year with monthly homeroom meetings and activities related to a variety of topics, including goal setting, study skills, community service, school spirit, etc. The purpose is to provide a smooth transition into our community, develop a class bond, and generate school spirit.
Education extends beyond the four walls of a school building. St Joe's offers over one hundred online courses, in collaboration with Massachusetts-based company, Virtual High School.
With an extensive list of classes, students are able to pursue yearlong or half year courses, taught by certified teachers in accredited schools around the world.
VHS is available for all students who are independent and self-motivated. For complete information about our online course experience, please visit Edline, as well as the VHS website: www.govhs.org, and make sure to contact your child’s guidance counselor or Mrs Nancy DiBuono, Assistant Principal for Academic Affairs at 203-378-9378 or firstname.lastname@example.org.LEARN MORE
As of 2014, St Joseph High School will require the Apple iPad across all grades. After two years of research, workshops, school visits, and conferences, the iPad has been selected as the most accessible, resourceful, and practical technology for the college preparatory classroom.
The iPad creates an information rich learning environment wherein individual achievement and collaborative projects become the standard.
Whether you are trying to enhance your acceptability, qualify for scholarships, or improve your standing in select programs, a strong performance on standardized testing can make the difference. Learning strategies and honing those skills that tests like the SAT, the ACT and high school entrance exams focus on is the best way to prepare.LEARN MORE
