Nia Christie has been selected as USA Track & Field Connecticut Association Athlete of the Month for October. Currently a senior on the indoor and outdoor teams at St. Joseph High School in Trumbull , she has been a member of our Association for over ten years. Junior Kayla Clark and Sophomore Nia Christie qualified for the New England Championships! At the State Open Championships, which were held today at Willow Brook Park, Kayla and Nia, along with Olivia Johnson '19, finished in 12th place out of 58 teams. Kayla qualified in the 100m hurdle and triple jump events for New England's, finishing in 4th and 2nd, respectively. Nia will compete in the 100m hurdles and high jump at New England's, finishing 7th and 6th for these events.
The girls track team finished 6th overall out of a field of 38 teams yesterday at the class MM state championships.
Leading the field was Kayla Clark who is the state champion in the 100m hurdles and finished 3rd in the triple jump. Other medal winners were Nia Christie who finished 2nd in the high jump and 5th in the 100m hurdles and Olivia Johnson who finished 5th in the triple jump and 4th in the long jump. These girls will be moving on to the state open meet on Monday!
SJ Alum, Jada Harris, will be competing in the NCAA East Preliminary Championships in the 100m hurdles and the high jump for UMass! To read more about Jada's qualification for the even click here!
The Cadets competed in the O'Grady Relays in Bethel this weekend. They earned a first place medal in the Triple Jump event, narrowly missing the record, and a third place medal in the 300m hurdles!
This past weekend at the Patriot Games Meet in Coventry, the girls shuttle hurdle relay team broke the meet record! Congratulations Nia, Olivia, Kayla, and Emily on this accomplishment!
