2019-2020 Team News
Kayla Clark and Nia Christie competed this weekend in the State Open! With only two athletes competing, the Cadets placed 10th out of 39 teams. Both athletes qualified for the New England Championships, which will be held this weekend in Boston!
SJ Girls Track finished 4th this weekend out of 25 teams in the Class M Championships!
In the 55 m hurdle event Kayla Clark and Nia Christie earned a place on the podium. Clark finished in 1st place with a time of 8.43, Christie finished in 3rd place with a time of 8.85.
In the High Jump event, Nia Christie finished in 2nd place.
In the Long Jump event Nia Christie finished in 4th place, while Bianca Espaillat finished 13th.
Although there's a few missing, they worked extremely hard. True definition of scholar athletes! Well done Cadets! These ladies placed 9th out of 14 schools in the FCIAC Championships with 23 points.
FCIAC Eastern division championships were held last Saturday at Wilton HS.
The lady Cadets finished in 5th place over all.
Nia Christie had a strong showing with a first place finish and new PR for the high jump. She also placed 2nd in both the long jump and 45m hurdles. Congrats Nia!
Bianca Espaillat jumped her way to 2 PRs on Saturday placing in the top 10 in both long and high jumps.
Kathleen Tokar sprinted into 3rd place in the short 45m dash while distance runner Helen Mahoney worked her way into 1top ten position in the 1000m.
Last Thursday several of our lady Cadets proved that hard work on and off the field pays off as 5 girls were inducted into various National Honor Societies during an after school ceremony. Congratulations on your academic achievements Anais DeJesus, Mia Geignetter, Helen Mahoney, Mauve Malone and Nina Pelletier.

FCIAC qualifier #4 was held Saturday January 25 at Wilton High School. As usual the SJ Lady Cadets landed several top ten finishes. 1st place in the short 45M dash went to Kathleen Tokar as Nina Pelletier sprinted over the line just behind her, taking 2nd place. Both girls set a new PR in the event.
Kathleen Tokar had a stellar day with with a second first place finish in the 300m. The 300m event was an SJ success with 5 cadets finishing in the top ten. In order of finishes are Kathleen Tokar, Danielle Haniph, Diana Stage, Mia Geignetter and Lia Leandres.
As always our hurdlers shined taking first and 3rd places in 45M hurdle event with both Nina Pelletier and Anais DeJesus setting personal records.
The 1000m distance placed 2 cadets in the top ten. Kathleen Naugton in 4th place and Riley Kudravy in 7th both with their season's best times.
Shot put placed Brook Eckardt and Aleesa Gibson in the top ten while freshman Tijha Marshall-West landed her personal best in the long jump.
SJ entered 2 teams in the 4 x 225 relay. They placed 1st and 3rd.

FCIAC qualifying meet #3 prove to be all about going the distance with several team members setting personal records in the 300-1000m races. Helen Mahoney scored a first place finish with a PR of 1:56.07 for the 1000m. Her time qualified her for the FCIAC finals. Helen also placed 2nd with a PR in the 600m just behind Maeve Malone who's time landed her in first place as well as being her new PR. Distance runners, Kathleen Naughton and Danielle Haniph also set PRS in their events.
Bianca Espaillat hurdled her way to a 2nd place finish while Megan Frattaroli placed in the top 10.
Other top 10 finishes were awarded to Aleesa Gibson (shot put), Bianca Espaillat (long jump) and Rosie Simms (shot put and long jump).
The SJ relays teams had a successful meet as well. They participated in the 4x240, 4x400 and the SMR.
3 SJ competitors Nia Christie, Nina Pelletier and Rosie Simms participated in the CTHS hepthalon/pole vault event friday 1-17-2020. Nia placed 2nd in the multi event meet as did Rosie in pole vault.

The next week will be held Saturday 1-25-2020.
It was a day of personal records and the setting of a new school record at the FCIAC qualifier #2 held Saturday January 11th. The SJ Lady Cadets again brought home numerous top ten finishes as well as several personal records.
5 SJ hurdlers placed in the top 7 positions, in order Jr. Nia Christie, Soph. Nina Pelleter, Jr. Bianca Espaillat and Soph. Anais DeJesus all set person records for the event.
The distance runners finished up the day with Kathleen Naughton setting a PR and top ten finish in the 1600m run while Helen Mahoney 4th place, Maeve Malone 6th and Kathleen Tokar 11th set PRs in the 600m run.
3 sprinters crossed the finish line in the top ten of the 300m dash. Nia Christie in first place with Kathleen Tokar in second and Bianca Espaillat in 8th.
The long jump event saw 4 lady Cadets leap into the top four spots, all now FCIAC qualified. In order of finish are Nia Christie, Nina Pelletier, Bianca Espaillat and Rosie Simms.
Sophomore Nina Pelletier placed #1 out of over 100 sprinters to set a PR of 7.33 seconds in the 50m dash breaking the previous school record which was set in 2016.

The next meet will be held Saturday January 18 at Staples High School Field House.
It may have been cold and snowing outside but inside the Moore Field House, the lady Cadets were on fire. Participating in the 4th *James Barber Invitational, the girls brought home several top 10 finishes.
Jr. Rosie Simms pole vaulted 7' to land a second-place finish.
As always, SJ hurdled into top positions with Sr. Kayla Clark and Jr. Nia Christie finishing in the top 2 spots. Kayla also took home a 1st place long jump win and 3rd in the 55m dash.
Jr. Bianca Espaillat represented with a top 10 finish in the long jump.
Sophomore Nina Pelletier took 2nd place in a photo finish while setting her new PR in the 55m event.
The underclassmen 4x200 relay team, running together for the first time, concluded the meet with a strong 12th place finish.
Junior Helen Mahoney ran her heart out in the 1600m which allowed her to hit the qualifying standard to the next level.

Junior Kathleen Tokar- 55m Dash, made it to the finals where she came in 6th with a time of 7.81. She ran a 7.80 in the semis and a 7.82 in the prelims.
Junior Nia Christie- 55m Dash 8.11 in prelims and 7.98 PR in the semis. She also went on to win the 55m hurdles with a time of 8.86 in the finals. She ran a 8.94 in the prelims.
Junior Bianca Espaillat- 55m hurdles 10.15 in prelims and finished 6th in the finals with a time of 10.13.
Sophmore Anais DeJesus- 55m hurdles PR 11.19
Junior Megan Frattaroli- 55m hurdles 11.80
Freshman Lia Leandres- 55m dash PR 8.85
Sophmore Gabrielle DaSilva-55m dash PR 9.07
SMR relay team of Christie, Leandres, G. DaSilva, and Simms placed 9th overall with a time of 5:15.57.
4x800 team of Junior Maeve Malone, Junior Luana DaSilva, Soph. Riley Kudravy and Soph. Kathleen Naughton placed 10th overall with a time of 13:32.
2018-19 Team News
Kayla Clark and Nia Christie, along with boys hurdler Myles Hall, qualified for the New England Championships at the State Opens this weekend! New Englands are held on Saturday, March 2nd at the Regis Lewis Center in Boston!
The Cadets finished in 4th place out of 35 teams at the CIAC Class M Championships this weekend! Olivia Johnson is the Class M Champion in the Long Jump Even, jumping at 12-3.75". Nia Christie came in 6th place in the event with a jump of 16-2.0. Kayla Clark and Nia Christie finished in 2nd place and 5th place, respectively, in the 55m hurdles. Nia and Kayla also finished in 4th and 5th place in the High Jump Event.
Congratulations to Cadets athletes Kayla Clark and Nia Christie who earned All-FCIAC honors last night! Nia came in first place in the high jump event at the FCIAC Championships, while Kayla finished in second place in the hurdle event! Both athletes, along with several other member have qualified for the state tournament as well!
A few member of the Cadets team qualified for the Yale Classic this weekend! Hundreds of teams participate in this meet. Olivia Johnson finished in fourth place in the long jump event. Nia Christie and Olivia Johnson all make it to the semi-final heat in the hurdle event, Kayla Clark made it to the finals, finishing in third place with a medaling time of 8.71.

SJ Girls Track competed in the Hillhouse Relay Invitational to close out 2018 and opened up the New Year in the Wintergreen at Southern CT State University! The program was able to add a few more athletes to the list of those who have already qualified for states and a new school record was set in the shuttle relay! See pictures below from both meets!
This weekend the Cadets ran in the Hillhouse Invitational meet! Olivia Johnson, Nia Christie, and Kayla Clark all qualified for states in the hurdle events. Johnson and Clark medaled 2nd and 3rd place respectively in the triple jump event!
