building confidence through hands-on engineering
The unique, hands-on Aeronautical Engineering Program introduces STEM education, experiential learning, and student engagement designed to empower and motivate all students.
In 2018, St Joseph High School partnered with Milestone C to introduce a new Aeronautical Engineering Course. The course encourages students to build confidence while building drones! The unique, hands-on program introduces STEM education, experiential learning, and student engagement designed to empower and motivate all students.
Upon "graduation day" in the program, students begin with the Critical Design Review (CDR) Presentations in which they explain the way they designed and built professional racing drones from scratch. Following the presentations, the student teams show off their drones - flying performing aerobatic maneuvers.
St Joseph High School students experience an aeronautical program complete with customer requirements, design reviews, trade studies, and a flight test effort. Aside from technical aspects of the program, students walk away with a heightened sense of confidence and key college & career skills such as critical thinking, formal presentation, leadership & teamwork, problem solving, and communication.
