Mrs Trina Bowman

Ms Bowman is thrilled to be a part of the Social Studies department at St Joe's. She teaches American History and Honors American History to sophomores as well as AP European History to juniors. She also works with Mrs Cellini as co-adviser for the St Joseph Chapter of the National Honor Society. Mrs Bowman has a BA in History from the State University of New York at Potsdam and an MA in Public History from the University of South Carolina, Columbia.

Mrs Eileen Broderick

English Department Chairperson
Mrs Broderick has a BA in English Literature from Providence College, an MA in Communications from Fairfield University and an MA in Secondary Education-English, also from Fairfield University. She spent over 20 years in the publishing industry as a professional writer and editor, 17 with Golf Digest magazines.
Mrs Broderick says "I wanted to teach at SJ because my family has a long history with the school, starting when my brother entered the school as a freshman in 1969. Ten members of my family have graduated from the school, including all my siblings, my nieces and nephews and my daughter. I had an amazing high school experience at SJ as a student as a member of the Drama Club, Spanish National Honor Society and as Editor of Amaranth. My teachers inspired me and their lessons remained with me long after I graduated. I want to be that teacher for my students. I value the sense of community at SJ as well as the academic rigor and the numerous sports and clubs available to the students. There truly is a place for everyone here at SJ."

Mrs Broderick also co-coaches JV cheerleading at SJ. When she's not teaching or coaching, you can find her at her family home in Cape Cod, usually with a book in hand.

Mr Paul Brunner

Mr Brunner holds a BA From Christendom College, and is the SJHS Walkathon Committee Chairman, and Co-moderator of the Guitar Club. Before coming to St Joe's, Mr Brunner worked in Hartford at the State Capitol, as well as in the Renewable Energy field. His passions, other than teaching, are mission work and music.

Mrs Kathleen Cardillo

Fine Arts Dept Chairperson
Mrs Cardillo has a BA from Fairfield University with a double major in Theater and English and an MA from Fairfield in Secondary Education with a concentration in Language Arts. She has been teaching at SJHS since the 2005-2006 school year.

Before SJHS she worked for various professional theater companies including Shakespeare Ventures in Fairfield, CT and Westport Country Playhouse. She grew up in Newtown, where her parents still reside, and attended Newtown High School. She is the Department Chair of Fine Arts at SJHS and is the moderator of the Drama Club. When not at SJHS (which seems to be rarely) she is busy spending time with her husband and chasing her son and cocker spaniel around the yard and house.

Mr Kevin Carey

Mr Carey holds a BA from Saint John Fisher College in Spanish and an MBA in Education from University of New Haven, with a concentration in marketing. He is the CT State Director of Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica as well as a member of following professional organizations: CT COLT, AATSP, ACTFL, ASCD. He had a year in public schools but he says it was just not the right fit coming from a Catholic high school and Catholic college experience: "I was happy for the opportunity to pray with my students and colleagues."

Mrs Lisa Cellini

Mrs Cellini graduated from the University of Bridgeport 1980 with a BS in Medical Technology. She worked for fourteen years at Yale as a research tech in Immunology and Clinical Chemistry. She has been teaching at St Joseph for fifteen years and teaches Biology, Microbiology and Genetics. She has written and been awarded the Trumbull Business Initiative Mini Grant for the past six years. Funds from the grant are used to give genetics and microbiology students the opportunity to visit the Dolan DNA Learning Center Cold Spring Harbor NY where students perform a variety of Genetics Labs, then visit the Cold Spring Harbor Research Campus. Mrs Cellini emphasizes the use of technology and her students have created their own web pages collaborating in groups using Google resources.

She was the Varsity Cheerleading coach from 2007-2012. Her teams won back to back FCIAC Championships, placed 1st runner up in States and went to Regionals. She is currently co-moderator of the National Honor Society and is a member of the in house Professional Development Committee.

Mrs Pia is originally from the Northwest corner of Connecticut: a New Englander born and bred. In addition to teaching at St Joe's, she is also the Girls Cross Country coach. She has her Master of Theological Studies (MTS) in Marriage and Family from the Pontifical John Paul II Institute in Washington, D.C. as well as a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Journalism from Boston University.

Mr Eng has a BS from Cornell University in Engineering, with a minor in Social Psychology and Neurobiology, followed by an MS from Columbia University in Electrical Engineering. He enjoys travel, photography, and cooking.
His connections to SJ are many: his wife Patty is an SJ '66 graduate, daughter Melissa is SJ '94, son Victor is '96, and son Tim 'is 01--and son-in-law, Xavier Egurbide graduated in '93. Says Mr Eng, "I'm a great believer in Catholic education, I went to a Catholic grammar school and High School which lay the foundation for my faith today."
Outside of the classroom, you can probably find him at just about any SJ event!

Mr Thomas Forde

Mr Forde is a certified teacher with a BA in English and Journalism from Madonna University and an MA in Secondary Education English from Fairfield University. He teaches American and British Literature at SJ and looks forward to coaching in the newly launched Audio/Visual Club, on the talent side.

Mr Forde worked in radio news for 17 years before becoming a teacher as well as what he describes as "in another life and in another body" a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division of the US Army.

Mrs Daisy Laone

Born and raised in Taiwan, where Mandarin Chinese is the official language, Mrs Laone came to the United States in 2004. Having taught English as Second Language in Taiwan for eight years, she began teaching Mandarin. In 2011, she received her Connecticut teaching certification for teaching Mandarin Chinese for K-12.

Her experience of learning and teaching languages gives her a unique perspective on the entire process of learning a second language. Mrs Laone has a strong knowledge and cultural awareness of Mandarin speaking cultures throughout the world. Her teaching philosophy is to develop methods to inspire students learn in their own personal ways. She believes learning a second language should be fun, lots of fun.

Ms Tanya Lowell hails from New York City. She taught at the City University of New York for five years as an adjunct/lecturer. Within the CUNY system, she taught English Remedial Composition and ESL. She was also “trying to make it” as a singer/musician when she resided in NYC, playing such well-known clubs, such as Café Wha?, the Bitter End, and the Mercury Lounge. Interestingly enough, she also is a writer of poems and is working on a novel, as we speak. She likes to read her poetry in coffee houses and at poetry festivals within the New York City area in her spare time.

She is the moderator of Amaranth and helps assist JV Cheerleading.

Ms Cynthia Richter

A graduate of Skidmore College (BS) and Southern Connecticut State University (MS), Ms Richter has taught art for the past 24 years at St Joseph High School. She has been instrumental in developing new courses like Pottery and has stregthened exisitng ones. Ms Richter is a moderator for the Animal Rescue Club, Portfolio Club and Pottery Club. She is also responsible in the production of the school yearbook, Spectrum.
Outside of St Joe's Ms Richter remains very busy. She is an advid kayaker and paddles the various lakes in southern CT. She works part time as a kayak instructor with LLBean on the weekends and spends her summers instructing kayaking on Lake George. A lover of all animals Ms Richter volunteers her time helping various animal rescue groups as well.

"¡Hola! Yo soy Señor Gregory Semplice." As you might have guessed by his introduction, Mr Semplice teaches Spanish at St Joe's. He is from and still lives in Bristol, Connecticut where he graduated from Eastern High School. He has earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Masters degree in Educational Technology, both from Central Connecticut State University.

Mr Semplice had a varied career before coming to St Joe's. He worked for General Motors for several years and then spent about fifteen years in web offset printing. But teaching was always his dream so when the opportunity to teach here presented itself, he jumped at the chance and have never regretted it for a moment. In addition to teaching, he coaches boys' indoor and outdoor track and he is also the freshman class moderator.

Mrs Sorrentino has worked at SJ for nineteen years, after earning an MAT from Sacred Heart University. She enjoys kayaking on Lake Forest. As a graduate of St Joe's herself, her favorite aspect of SJ is that she met her husband there when she sat across from him on the first day of freshman English class!

Ms Stunkel graduated in 2008 with a BA in Religious Studies from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. After graduation she traveled to Argentina and returned to Peru to assist Catholic nuns in various orphanages. Upon returning home, Ms Stunkel received a call from a soon-to-be colleague who recommended she apply for a religion teacher opening. Although teaching was not in her original plan-book, God knew where she needed to be. After college, she spent months looking for a community to belong to and almost six years later it has a become a community that is more like a family.

Mrs Aldana-Rodrigues has a BA in English from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Arts in Education-English from Sacred Heart University. Prior to coming to St. Joseph's, Ms. Aldana taught in the public school system in Baltimore, Maryland. She enjoys working in a small, tight-knit community with like-minded professionals and hardworking, studious students.

Ms. Aldana is a fan of the outdoors and spends her free time boating, hiking, rock climbing, and running 5ks. Her puppy Pepperoni is known to tag along on many of her adventures. Service to the community is a key part of her life and she enjoys rolling up her sleeves alongside St Joe's students on weekends. She looks forward to another great year!
