Joel Geriak Appointed Head Coach of Varsity Boys Basketball at St. Joseph High School

April 29, 2026TRUMBULL, CT— St. Joseph High School is pleased to announce the appointment of Joel Geriak as the new Head Coach of their Varsity Boys Basketball team.

Joel Geriak is a veteran multi-sport coach with more than two decades of experience developing student-athletes in Fairfield County. A graduate of Westhill High School, Geriak was a two-year starter and senior captain on the basketball team. He continued his playing career at Concordia College, competing at the Division II level from 1997-2000.

Geriak began his coaching career at New Canaan High School, where he served from 2001-2011 as an assistant varsity coach and head junior varsity coach. During his tenure, he helped establish the program as a consistent playoff contender. In 2007, he stepped in as interim head coach and led the team to a 6–3 record.

In 2012, Geriak joined Wilton High School as an assistant varsity and head JV coach before being promoted to head varsity basketball coach in 2013. Over 14 seasons (2013–2026), he compiled 204 wins, guiding Wilton to 12 FCIAC playoff appearances, including six semifinal berths and two championship game appearances. Under his leadership, the program qualified for the CIAC state tournament every season, reaching the state semifinals twice.

SJ’s Director of Athletics, Kevin Butler, shared, “We are pleased and excited to welcome Coach Geriak to our athletic staff and our St. Joes community. Coach Geriak is a proven FCIAC head coach, and we look forward to his leadership as he continues to elevate our program.”

Beyond basketball, Geriak has coached multiple sports. He has been a member of the softball program at New Canaan since 2010 and has served as co-head coach since 2018, contributing to an FCIAC championship in 2013. He also coached baseball at New Canaan from 2004-2009, helping the team capture the 2006 FCIAC title.

In football, Geriak served on the New Canaan staff from 2002-2005 as head JV/sophomore coach, playing a role in the program’s 2002 state championship and FCIAC runner-up finish. He later returned to football as offensive coordinator at Wilton High School in 2019, helping lead the team to its first state playoff appearance since 1995.

Coach Geriak will be formally introduced to the members of the boys basketball program within the next few weeks.
