SJ Cadets to Participate in Yale's Model UN!
Cadets at Yale Model UN 2018

This year, St. Joseph High School will have 32 students from our UCONN ECE International Relations class attending Yale Model UN from Jan 17-Jan 20. There will be 1800 students attending. One of every five is from out of the United States. Schools attending will be from countries such as from China, the Russian Federation, The Middle East and numerous other nation states.

The students will be involved in high level negotiations in an effort to resolve the global issues facing the UN and its member states. St Joseph has been assigned a very impressive group of committees for this conference. We are the Russian Federation on the UN Security Council. We have two NGO seats representing the WHO and the World Wildlife Federation. We have four seats on the Historical Environmental conference (1976), a seat on the African Union, an attorney on the International Court of Justice, a seat on the GA Historical Committee as well as numerous seats on the UN General Assembly and ECOSOC representing countries such as Finland, Paraguay and Tanzania These committees will be addressing issues such as  global health, the environment, the rights of woman and children, global trafficking in humans as well as drugs, nuclear issues and terrorism to name a few.

There will be more than 20 committee contact hours between 6:30 pm on Thursday and 12:30 pm on Sunday. Committees run until 11:30pm and some lucky students are alerted and taken to crises committees after mid night!  Yale is the highest rated Model UN in the US. As a result, the level of negotiations and academic success of the students involved is exceptional. Our class is awesome and we expect to excel at this conference!
