The Irish Club invites all students to explore and to celebrate the language, recipes, history and culture of Ireland. It focuses on community service projects, educational field trips, and representing the SJ community in the Bridgeport St. Patrick's Day Parade.

The Kickboxing improves the strength and flexibility of all muscle groups in the body. It also helps to develop joints and overall skeletal system. Kickboxing involves bouncing, ducking, pivoting, punching and kicking, it requires repetitive motions of your entire body. Whether you are already a fighter, want to become one, or are just looking to stay in shape this is the place for you.  We will be covering all the beginner components and concepts of striking. 

The Letters with Love Club invites students to appreciate the art of letter writing.This is achieved through participation in the Feroleto Center Pen Pal program. Participants are involved in community service projects and meet with their penpals during the year.

Model Congress allows students to take on the role of legislators in congress. During simulations, students write legislation, deliver speeches in support or opposition of presented bills, and vote on legislation as a congressional body.

The Multicultural Club makes the community aware of interracial, intergenerational, and intersectional overlapping and independent systems of discrimination and disadvantage within interconnected social categorizations of race, class, and gender as they apply to a given individual or group.

The Mencius Scholar Chapter of the National Chinese Honor Society at St. Joseph High School seeks to recognize the most diligent, kind-hearted, and committed students in the Chinese program. Under the leadership of the moderator, the organization is committed to offer Chinese after school programs to elementary schools in the community, as well as tutoring other students in the Chinese program. The NCHS also works to promote the school’s Mandarin Chinese program among the school community throughout the year.

Mencius Scholar Chapter is a member of Chinese Language Association of Secondary-Elementary Schools

Students who have been enrolled in the school for at least a semester and have earned a 90.0 GPA are invited to apply after fall semester junior year and at the beginning of senior year. Students seeking acceptance need to demonstrate their qualities of character, leadership, and service. Once accepted into the Society, it is expected that all criteria for membership be maintained throughout the remainder of each student’s high school career.

The Spanish Club meets throughout the year. All students interested in the richness of the Spanish and Latin American cultures are welcome. We are the Iboamerican Chapter of the Spanish National Honor Society. Students must maintain a minimum of a 90 average for 6 consecutive quarters in order to be initiated and then maintain that average over their involvement. Scholarships for travel and study are offered by the National Organization as well as the possibility to be published in the National Organizations publication called Albericias.

Ambassadors are the students that greet you at the door! They serve as representatives for SJ during middle school visits, high school nights, and school events. With a wide range of extracurricular, and talents, our Students Ambassadors are happy to share their authentic and personal experiences at St Joes with prospective families.

Student Council is an organization of student leaders who work closely with faculty advisors to advance the mission of St. Joseph High School. Members are elected by their peers to present their interests and concerns to the school administration and community.  Student Council representatives are responsible for organizing and promoting a wide array of events throughout the year. 

An artist's portfolio is an edited collection of their best artwork intended to showcase an artist's style or method of work. Art portfolio club focuses on developing student portfolios  to illustrate the versatility of each students' talents by showing different samples of current work.

The Women’s Studies Club strives to improve the self-esteem and cultural competency of high school students.  The members accomplish this task through meetings, learning opportunities, activities, projects, and speakers.  The mission of the SJHS Women's Studies Club is to foster the interdisciplinary study of women and gender, and provide, through teaching and research, information on the complex ways of knowledge, experience, and social systems.  Members of the club think critically about their own lives and that thinking inspires them to work as active citizens.

The Writing Resource Center at St Joseph High School is a student-centered learning, resource, and study environment for students to obtain and seek help concerning writing expository essays, creative assignments, and research/term papers for their classes.  This program endorses writing across the curriculum, and student-trained tutors are available for tutoring sessions after school. During a session, peer tutors and teachers engage in conversation with student-writers, focusing on ideas, organization, development, argument, synthesis, and writers’ concerns.  In serving as an audience, the Writing Resource Center staff fosters active learning, skill-set growth, and writing confidence while simultaneously providing support during any stage of the writing process: idea generation, brainstorming, outlining, drafting, or revision.

Following Columbia University School of Journalism’s ideas, concepts and format, the Spectrum continues to be one of New England’s award winning premier high school medalist yearbooks. Although the staff (writers, editors, photographers, and business managers) is made up of mostly juniors and seniors, freshmen and sophomores fill 40% of the staff needs.

Be part of the team that produces one of the best high school yearbooks in New England. Meets 2-3 times a week. To be actively involved in the editorial process, students must commit to making the yearbook a primary activity. In the process, the students learn valuable skills such as digital photography, desktop publishing, copy editing, creative design, and management.
