Course offerings and descriptions, as well as dates and costs are detailed below. We'll see you this summer!

Please Note: Summer Courses allow rising 11th & 12th grade students to engage with their SJ peers in areas of advanced studies or allow rising 9th and 10th grade students the opportunity for a study hall during their upcoming school year. Students in Grades 11 and 12 cannot use a summer course to gain an additional study hall and must maintain 6 credits per academic year (September-June). Therefore, students who take advantage of this opportunity will graduate with 26+ credits.

Fundamentals of Art

Description: This course provides a general overview of the visual arts with an emphasis on design, historical significance, and
artistic intent. Students work with two and three-dimensional mediums creating realistic and abstract works including pencil, pastel, marker, and paint. The hands-on work combines with text, multimedia presentations, and class discussions to help students gain an understanding of the societal importance of art.

Course Credits

Students who elect to take this course during the summer will receive a full-week study hall during one semester of freshmen year. If students elect to take this course and then enroll in Choir or Band, they will receive the .5 credits, but will not have the semester-long study hall.

Description: This course introduces freshmen students to technology-centered, hands-on, inquiry-based learning. Through assorted projects, students will gain the software and technical skills necessary for success in high school, college and beyond. Students will have repeated opportunities to use design mindset, learn collaboratively, practice task management, and cultivate teamwork, communication, and critical-thinking skills.

Freshman Seminar

Description: Our Class of 2029 Freshman Seminar class provides a well-rounded orientation for incoming students to ease the transition to high school both academically and socially! This three-day onboarding program will feature academic courses, College & School Counselor meetings, student account set up and a group service project.

Course Notes & Considerations: Daily lunch will be provided, however our catering program will not yet be operating at full capacity. If you have dietary restrictions, we recommend bringing a lunch from home.

The Science of Learning

Course Description: Students are introduced to the growing field of “learning how to learn,” through lively discussions, group projects,
hands-on activities, presentations and mini-lessons. This is an introductory course, open to all interested 9th graders, that explores topics in brain development, sleep, focus, attention, memory and the roles of hormones in human behavior, particularly teenagers. It will enable students to become involved in their academic, social, physical, cognitive and emotional development through high school.

Course Description: This course examines the history of Roman Catholic social teaching with an emphasis on Church Documents promulgated by Popes and Bishops. With an emphasis on the principles of Catholic social teaching using reflection, judgment, and action, topics include justice and society, the right to life, prejudice, racism, peace, work, and the environment.

Description: This course is an intensive study of the constitutional framework, institutions, and political processes of the United
States government. Students focus on the duties, rights, and responsibilities of citizenship and develop a critical understanding of the political, economic, and social challenges in governing a pluralistic society. Case studies of historical and current issues are utilized to provide students an analytical perspective on the evolution of the United States government.

Description: Two and three-dimensional geometric figures are explored through the use of definitions, postulates and theorems.
Inductive and deductive reasoning are developed in the formulation of proofs and through group activities. This course allows for students to earn credit prior to their sophomore year, allowing them to take Calculus as Seniors.

Course Description: Recognizing the complexity of living in our current age, this semester course seeks to provide students with the
tools to live out a moral life. The curriculum focuses on applying the Church’s moral teachings to contemporary life, with a focus on the topics of decision-making, conscience, honesty, laws, virtues, vices, etc. Students will learn how to live out God’s call and bring their unique perspective into the world to make it a better place.

Course Description: In this course, students learn of God’s revelation through an examination of the writings of the New Testament, and by studying the person, role, nature and message of Jesus Christ. Emphasis on the development of Christology from the first century to the modern age, and an exploration of the Acts of the Apostles and the Epistles illustrate the role of the early Christian community in the formation of the Church. Students learn to integrate Scripture into prayer life and moral decision-making.

The Senior College Bootcamp is designed to prepare our seniors with the essential skills, knowledge, and resources they need to thrive during the college application season. Students will learn to navigate the admissions process, receive valuable essay feedback, work on the Common App, and other necessary tasks associated with the process.

College Admissions Reps will also attend and speak with students to assist in the process.

The camp offers offensive instruction, including fundamental
drills and technique play for quarterbacks, running backs,
receivers and linemen. Defensive instruction includes
fundamental drills and technique play for interior alignment,
linebackers, and defensive backs. Kicking game skills will
also be covered.
The camp is under the direction of St. Joseph HS head
football coach Joe Della Vecchia. Camp staff will include
members of the St. Joseph HS staff along with current and
former St. Joseph players.
The camp is designed for a safe and positive environment
for all participants. The camp will instill life-long values of
teamwork, dedication, loyalty and superior work ethic for the

Athletic Conditioning Dates:

Athletic Conditioning is hosted by KMK Training on SJ's campus and begins June 16. There is no fee for our students to participate.

Note: All students must sign up through FinalForms in order to participate. Students in the Class of 2029 will have FinalForms available in June and an announcement will be sent to you via email.

Summer Conditioning Not Mandatory: Participation in summer athletic conditioning is entirely voluntary and is not a prerequisite for trying out or becoming a member of any team. While the program offers valuable training opportunities, it is not mandatory for athletes to attend.

Every July and August, Campus Ministry hosts a service project to support local non-profits. We hope you'll join us. Please note: registration for our July 16 Summer Service Day is now closed.
