Staff Openings

Director of Guidance and College Counseling 

The Guidance and College Counseling Office has six counselors, a licensed clinical social worker, a registrar and strategic support staff. The primary responsibilities of the director are to ensure the office provides a comprehensive and efficient college counseling program and appropriate social-emotional services.

The Director of Guidance and College Counseling reports directly to the principal and works collaboratively with the academic council, the dean of curriculum and learning, and the dean of students. The Director will have a master’s degree in counseling, experience with college admissions, and exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

The Director:

  • Manages an assignment of students through the college application process
  • Creates and communicates to students, parents, and faculty an accurate calendar of the college admission process: applications, essay workshops, software training, recommendations, testing dates, financial aid workshops (FAFSA), college visits, available scholarships, etc.
  • Provides professional development for the counselors and faculty related to college admissions (NACAC)
  • Ensures a balanced and equitable distribution of students among counselors
  • Revises and distributes the college admissions handbook
  • Maintains accurate transitional and permanent records of student performance
  • Tracks trends in college counseling and guidance fields
  • Cultivates relationships between SJHS and college admission offices
  • Supervises and approves appropriate learning accommodations
  • Supervises academic achievement awards and graduation related activities
  • Collaborates with marketing and enrollment management office in profiling the SJHS graduate Represents the school at official functions relating to the educational community
  • Supports and promotes the Catholic educational mission of the school
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the principal and/or head of school as appropriate to the position.

Dean of Curriculum and Learning

The primary goals for the Dean of Curriculum and Learning are to provide a strong college-oriented program of studies and to ensure the quality of instruction is professional, personalized, and measurable. The Dean will be current with instructional methods, supervision and observation, curriculum development, classroom environment, and educational analytics. The Dean reports directly to the Principal and works collaboratively with the Academic Council, the Office of Guidance and Counseling, and the Registrar.

The Dean:

  • Designs and develops innovative curriculum, assessments, and instructional methods with the principal and department heads
  • Develops professional learning plans for the teachers
  • Promotes personalized mastery learning strategies that meet the needs of individual students
  • Counsels administration, teachers, students, and parents relative to student achievement
  • Implements the educator evaluation plan to support student achievement
  • Supervises the recruiting, hiring, and training of professional educators
  • Cooperates with guidance and administration in student restorative practices
  • Facilitates the advancement of effective use of technology in teaching and learning
  • Assists administration in promoting the mission of the school
  • Oversees remediation work for struggling students
  • Coordinates Advanced Placement testing, virtual and dual enrollment programs
  • Represents the school at official functions relating to the educational community
  • Is available, accessible, and effective in communicating with parents, students, and the various constituencies of the school a clear educational philosophy
  • Supports and promotes the Catholic educational mission of the school
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the principal and/or head of school as appropriate to the position of Dean of Curriculum and Learning.
